
May of 2006 saw the addition of the Sony Ericsson Z550i to the line of Sony phones. This new flip phone was modeled after the popular T610 with its glossy brushed metal exterior. The phone measures 87.5 mm by 45.4 mm by 20 mm and weight 93 grams. The tri-band GSM/GPRS mobile phone supports the GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 MHz bands.
The Sony Ericsson Z550i has a 1.3 MP digital camera that captures still photos and video clips with equal ease. The bright colour display has 262K with a 176 by 220 pixel resolution and measures 30 mm by 37 mm. There is a second external monochromatic display of 128 by 36 pixels. The MP3 or AAC supported music player is another bright spot on this camera. Both the digital camera and the music play access a full 20 MB of built in storage space. There is the capacity to introduce a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card to 1 gig in size of added storage is needed.
The Sony Ericsson Z550i also contains a built in FM radio receiver. Attractive wallpaper, screen savers and themes can be easily downloaded to the phone.
Messaging capacity in the Sony Ericsson Z550i is amazingly comprehensive. Not only can the user access MMS and SMS messaging, but also push based email, POP and IMAP. Bluetooth connectivity is another added feature which makes this mobile phone even more popular with users. GPRS Class 10 provides speeds of 32 to 48 kbps.
Preloaded 3D games for recreational activities and inclusion of Java MIDP v2.0 specification. Sound output is controlled by the polyphonic 40-voice music generator. The phone also supports MP3 and AAC. Customization and vibration features are readily available. You can even compose your own ringtones. Both the Sony Ericsson Music DJ and the Sony Ericsson Video DJ are built into the phone.
For over the road travel, the Sony Ericsson 440i has a built in handsfree speaker phone.
An enormous 1000 entry phonebook with included Photocall is part of the features. You can track up to 30 received, missed, and dialed calls.
