As they were released around the same time in early 2007, it could be expected that both of these mobile phones share similar features. That is, of course, save for the fact that the Sony Ericsson K810i is a Cybershot, and hence has a predisposition towards concentrating more on the camera and related utilities than on other aspects of the mobile phone. Truth is, Nokia probably wasn’t thinking about coming up head to head with the Sony Ericsson K810i with this mobile phone, and likewise vice versa.
Comparing Features of the Nokia 6300 and Sony Ericsson K810i
Size does matter to mobile phones, and between the Sony Ericsson K810i and Nokia 6300, the Nokia is clearly ahead in that regard. Many are still so drawn in by slim and sleek mobile phone exteriors, and the Nokia 6300 provides just that in an elegant fashion. By contrast, the Sony Ericsson K810i is much less slim and also a bit heavier, making it feel chunkier as well.
With a victory already in the bag for size, the Nokia 6300 also one ups the Sony Ericsson K810i by merit of its display screen. Despite both the mobile phones having the same size of display unit, the Nokia 6300 provides a visually stunning 16 million colours as opposed to the 256 thousand only of the Sony Ericsson K810i.
As much as it may seem that the Sony Ericsson is capitulating, the true comparison for the K810i is that which involves the camera itself. In this, the Nokia 6300 pales in comparison to, not just the 3.2 megapixel camera of the Sony Ericsson K810i, but also to the autofocus and much acclaimed xenon flash. Quite frankly, the 2 megapixels of the Nokia 6300 can’t compare to the image quality offered by a true Cybershot.
Lastly, the question of storage goes the way of the Sony Ericsson K810i as well. Although the Nokia 6300 supports microSD cards, it only has 7.8 MB of internal storage. The Sony Ericsson K810i on the other hand has about 64 MB of internal storage as well as support from the Memory Stick Micro.
After comparing features, it would seem as if both the Nokia 6300 and the Sony Ericsson K810 have strong points and weak points with neither really being of clear cut advantage. For the Sony Ericsson K810i, that focus is on the camera capture functions, whereas on the Nokia 6300 it is much more overall.
For any regular circumstances, either phone would suffice, however for great camera photos and such, truly the Sony Ericsson K810i would be a far better option. That said, the Nokia 6300 is really no slouch either and could easily perform on par with the Sony Ericsson K810i, in everything except the camera functions. Due to these very similar natures, prospective customers can afford some level of choice and take the time to decide which is more important, the all-round mobile phone that has a bit of everything, or the entirely camera focused mobile phone.
