Can I use my iPhone 3G for internet sharing with my Windows Vista laptop?

I am thinking of purchasing a iPhone 3G from ATT with a 2-year contract. I dont plan to “jailbreak” or cancel the contract. I currently have a HTC Cingular 8525 phone and use the internet sharing feature on Windows Mobile phones to access the internet on my laptop in places were free wi-fi is not available. This is not necessarily for browsing but for various other applications on my laptop. I think this is a must-have feature on all smartphones.

On the locked iPhone 3G, is there an official app or hack which I can use to achieve the same? I read that there was an official app on the iPhone app store but was brought down immediately by Apple. Any pointers will be extremely useful.
