Some companies are either attached to or compete with the iPhone from Apple reported earnings yesterday and today, helping to create an image of the smartphone market status paint.

AT & T, iPhone, Apple’s exclusive partner for a long time in the United States, reported that it activated 4.1 million iPhones during the fourth quarter of 2010, a figure that historically has included both the sale of new devices and the device activation previously sold either dropped or sold by the owner. The new capitalization policy from the previous quarter, which saw 5.2 million activations of the carrier.

Looking at the wider wireless business, AT & T added 2.8 million wireless subscribers in the quarter to a record 95.5 million subscribers to reach, but only the net addition of 400,000 people from different contracts more profitable postpaid. A full 61% of the company’s 68 million post-paid subscribers on the “Integrated device” provide a virtual or physical QWERTY keyboard, an increase of 46.8% last year.

AT & T also announced that a total of 442,000 IPAD and tablets based on Android on the network during the quarter added, noting that a major new growth market segment for the operator brands, but refused to come out mix between IPAD and Android.

In general, AT & T’s revenues dropped significantly from quarter last year, although the difference was mainly caused by increasing load-time accounting for pensions and restructuring. But analysts have expressed concerns about AT & T in the future, indicating lower than expected performance in landline business and concerns about the impact of the loss of exclusivity for the iPhone.

AT & T’s results come as a pair of smartphone manufacturers to report their own income, take the opportunity to concerns about the debut of the iPhone’s express next month on Verizon. Mobility Motorola announced the results of essentially line with analyst expectations, but offers guidance for the current quarter net loss of between 9 and 21 cents below analysts’ expectations of breakeven. Mobility Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said during a conference call at the profit earned by the carrier revenue decline as customers waited for the iPhone will be available on Verizon having to discuss.

Meanwhile, Nokia reported a drop in other income and recognized a loss that still persists in the smartphone market that the company has seen the market sank to 31% from 40% in the quarter last year. Looking ahead, Nokia also lead to the weak first quarter of 2011 as the company seeks a competitive strategy under new CEO Stephen Elop to both improve the sagging sales of traditional telephone and face off against the iPhone and Android in the smartphone segment.
